Aggies knock off No. 22 Gophers at 76 Classic
ANAHEIM, Calif. - Texas A&M had No. 22 Minnesota on the ropes late in the second half, but abysmal free throw shooting late allowed the Gophers to get back into the game. The Aggies missed 12 of their final 13 free throw attempts and nine of 10 in the last 1:33, allowing Minnesota a late chance to take the lead.
But the Aggie (5-1) defense contested the shot from Minnesota forward Paul Carter and gained control, preserving the 66-65 victory A&M almost gave away.
"We really defense. I thought after the first five minutes we were really good defensively and that was the difference," said A&M head coach Mark Turgeon. "It was a different guy every time and I thought B.J. would step to the line and make them and I though Sloan would step to the line and make them. He's done it his whole career."
