Jay Hughes enjoys visit
Jay Hughes' commitment to Mississippi State last month was pretty much a forgone conclusion and this past weekend's official visit could be described as just a formality.
But that doesn't mean it prevented the three-star athlete from Hattiesburg, Miss., from having a good time with his future teammates.
"I had a real good visit," Hughes said. "I got to eat at Coach (Dan) Mullen's house and that was real good. We had steak and shrimp in that big house. His wife is real friendly. We just had a good time altogether at the basketball game. All of the fans stood up for us and clapped as we walked in. We just partied and had fun at nighttime. It was a good visit."
Even being the son of the MSU assistant coach Tony Hughes did not prepare the younger Hughes for some of the Bulldogs recruiting tactics like the standing ovation they received at the men's basketball game against Georgia on Saturday.
"It caught me off guard," Hughes said. "I wasn't expecting that at all. It was fun walking in front of everybody and having them look at us and watch us."
Hughes has spent a lot of time in Starkville over the last year since his dad has been hired and has seen most of the facilities many times over. But this weekend was Hughes' first opportunity to check out the where he will be staying when he arrives on campus this summer.
