1-on-1 with two-sport Gator star Jeff Demps
The NCAA outdoor track & field championships begin next Wednesday in Eugene, Ore., and it's safe to say Florida's Jeff Demps will be one of the event's main attractions.
A standout tailback for the Gators, Demps also is an elite sprinter.
In fact, he has to be considered among the favorites in the 100-meter dash. For good measure, he'll also compete in the 4x100 relay for Florida, which has the overall talent to contend for the national title.
Thus far, the sophomore has had a terrific season.
He currently is being considered for the Bowerman, which is college track & field's highest individual honor. Demps enters next week's meet ranked fifth in the country in the men's 100 with a time of 10.06. He posted that mark -- the fastest wind-legal (under +2.0) in the NCAA this year -- at the recent SEC Outdoor Championships.
Earlier in 2010, Demps was the NCAA Indoor Men's 60-meter champion.
