Simmons prepared for first official
McKeesport, Pennsylvania defensive tackle Delvon Simmons is poised to take his first official visit of the recruiting process this weekend.
Simmons and teammate Branden Jackson will both be officially visiting Rutgers this weekend for the Scarlet Knights' game against North Carolina this weekend. His coach Jim Ward spoke with Rivals.com on Wednesday evening.
"He's going to Rutgers this weekend on an official but beyond that we have not decided upon where else he's going to visit," Ward said of Simmons.
"I know one of the schools he's waiting on, and they're going to come in [to visit him] is Oregon. He's excited about taking an official visit there once they get a chance to eyeball him, because that's their policy.
"There are a handful of other schools we've discussed but I don't know that he'll be taking all five [officials]. That's kind of hard to determine.
"I know he and I have discussed Michigan State and Iowa as another couple of schools to visit but I don't know yet. Whether he takes all five will probably determine how his visits to Rutgers and Oregon go and if he decides he wants to continue [with officials] after that. A lot of kids talk about wanting to take all five but then once they take two or three they change that."
Ward didn't hold back any praise for his star defensive tackle. It's clear that a coach can't think much more highly of a player than Ward does of Simmons.
"I think he's been completely dominant," he said of his play this year. "He's been unblockable in each of our games against the run and in his pass rushing. He's just been much better than I thought he was gonna be and I thought he would be good. He's a very skilled defensive lineman and the best thing you can say about defensive linemen is that they're unblockable."
