Vols offer West Virginia back
Tennessee is the most recent school to extend a scholarship offer to four-star West Virginia running back Allan Wasonga and the Vols are near the top of his list.
The 5-foot-8, 196-pound running back from Parkersburg, W.V., has thought highly of Tennessee for a while and the recent offer from the Vols has propelled them to the top of his list, along with one other school.
"I picked up an offer from Tennessee two days ago," Wasonga recalled. "That was my latest offer. They had been talking to me for a little while and I was just kind of waiting on it. I thought they would offer me a while back.
"I took a visit out there at the end of the summer and I liked every part of it. I thought it was a great place for anybody. I thought I could fit in pretty good with their offense.
"I see an opportunity to play there but anywhere there's going to be competition. I want to go somewhere I'll have to compete and somewhere I can play on a good team."
Wasonga is taking an official visit to Tennessee the weekend of November 13, when the Vols take on Ole Miss. He will be going to Penn State on Halloween weekend in a couple of weeks for the Nittany Lions game against Michigan.
"As far as any other officials go I haven't set up anything else," he said. "I just need to get in contact with other schools to see what they're trying to say to me. I'm open to looking at others but right now those are the only two official visits I've set up. I'll sit down and talk to my parents about it.
"I would have to say Tennessee and Penn State are my early favorites. I took a visit to Penn State right after I visited Tennessee. Both of them had a lot of things in common and I liked both places."
Wasonga is ranked the No. 22 running back in the nation and the No. 1 overall prospect in West Virginia by Rivals.com.
