Peacock getting a second chance
Excessive weight and limited grades kept [DB]Jason Peacock[/DB] from receiving many scholarship opportunities two years ago as a high school senior in Milledgeville, Ga.
But after shedding close to 75-pounds, Peacock has schools lining up for his services as one of the top junior college line prospects in the country at Citrus Community College in California.
"I think it's helped me and given me a lot of great opportunities I didn't have in high school," Peacock said. "I've gotten smaller, faster and stronger. I've actually learned to love the game instead of just playing it."
Peacock tipped the scales at 397-pounds as a senior at Baldwin High School and originally signed with Tuskegee. Now trimmed down to 315-pounds on his 6-foot-4 frame, he has earned offers from Arizona, Houston, Memphis, Mississippi State, Portland State and Utah.
"To be honest I really don't have any favorites right now," Peacock said. "I'm still open and want to go on some visits to see where I fit in. Houston has raised the bar to the point where it's probably going to be hard to top. I actually went on a visit there and they showed me a good time. I got a chance to kick it with the players and get a feel of the school. The atmosphere was great and as of this point if I wouldn't take any more visits then I would probably go to Houston but that's just because I took a visit there."
Peacock also has a visit scheduled to Mississippi State in December.
