Scouting Reports: Offensive backfield
Daniel Klobes
BeaverBlitz.com College programs are always on the lookout for top calibur quarterbacks and running backs who have the ability to become the face of the program. The Beavers evaluated a lot of candidates at various camps and walked away with 'their guy' in dual threat quarterback Peter Ashton.
While he may not fit the typical Beaver QB mold, Ashton is an overall great athlete who could play several positions for the Beavers. While everyone knew that he was mobile, it was his arm that sold Coach Langsdorf when he saw him in June at an Oregon State camp.
The Beavers already have a stable of talented running backs, but the two that signed were too talented to pass up, especially with star back Jacquizz Rogers announcing that he'd be leaving early for the NFL. Both athletes were on the Beavers radar early and the coaches were able to seal the deal with both Malcolm Agnew and Storm Woods early in the game.
The BeaverBlitz Scouting Reports are based on the experience we've had at the NIKE and College Camps in addition to first hand accounts from high school and junior college coaches that have worked with these players. We take into consideration information from the player, the physical attributes of each athlete, and information from other evaluators. We have taken the time to do film evaluation of each recruit. We've also tracked many of the in-state athletes through out their high school careers. The following comments are strictly our observations and opinions and do not reflect those of the Oregon State coaching staff.
OREGON STATE 2011 RECRUITING CLASS - QUARTERBACK/RUNNING BACK
PETER ASHTON • QB • 6-3 • 185 • 4.55 • 5.4 • Keller, TX
On the Hoof: There is not a lot of film on Ashton, but what has been seen shows that Ashton is an athlete. He is able to create plays with his feet, but is still able to stay in the pocket long enough to make plays with his arm.
