The phone of Stephenson running back Mike Davis is ringing off the hook.
That is to be expected, however, when one of the top running backs in the country reopens his recruitment just a couple of months before signing day.
Davis made an unofficial trip to Athens on Thursday to check out the home state Georgia Bulldogs, and he was greeted by the head man himself, Mark Richt.
"I spoke with Coach Mark Richt right when I got there," he said. "We talked a lot. Coach Bryan McClendon is recruiting me the most for Georgia, but I spent a lot of time talking with Coach Richt. He is a really good guy and has the boys playing well."
Athens has a reputation as a beautiful and fun town, but this trip wasn't to site see or have fun. It was a business trip.
"I visited to see practice and see the depth chart at running back," said Davis. "I see that a good back can come in and play a lot there. They need a guy, you know."
While Davis sees that opportunity on the practice field, he also is hearing it from the UGA coaches, and the top running back in the Peach State knows that Georgia wants him in the worst way.
"They are really recruiting me the hardest," he said. "I know they will recruit me the hardest throughout the process. They need a running back and they feel I am a good fit."
Immediately after decommiting from Florida less than two weeks ago, Davis had no idea about his plans.
Now that some time has passed, he has a much better idea of how things will play out.
"I have an official visit schedule to Florida State this weekend," he said. "Then I'll visit South Carolina on January 14, and Clemson sometime before or after that. I'm trying to decide if I'll visit Georgia officially or not. If I don't visit, they won't be out of it, but I'll probably take some more unofficial visits up there."
Things are bound to change in Davis's recruitment until ink dries, but the date for his decision is something that the star running back says will not be budged.
"I'm going to decide on signing day," said Davis. "That's definitely when I'll make my announcement."
