Warner expects no drop-off with Maxwell starting at QB
EAST LANSING - Whenever the topic of quarterback comes up, those inside the Michigan State football program are unified in their belief that junior Andrew Maxwell will perform at a high level during his first year as starter this fall.
During post-practice interviews last Wednesday, offensive coordinator Dan Roushar lauded Maxwell for his decision making and accuracy. A couple of days later head coach Mark Dantonio praised his starter's knowledge of the offense and leadership.
Quarterbacks coach Dave Warner chimed in following Friday's practice with the strongest endorsement of Maxwell to date.
"I expect Andrew to go into the season where Kirk Cousins went into 2011," said Warner. "That was with two years of starting under his belt with Kirk. Andrew has been through those same years. And although not being on the field, he has learned. He has learned through Kirk's great plays and great decisions and he has learned through the mistakes as well. We anticipate him to sort of step in there and continue taking the offense to the next level, hopefully."
