Monday with Mullen
For the second year in a row Mississippi State will be bluegrass bound.
The Bulldogs travel to Kentucky once again this season to take on the Wildcats. Dan Mullen is undefeated in four career games inside Commonwealth Stadium and is looking for his third victory there as the head coach at MSU.
"As an assistant I've been there twice (2005, 2007) and now this is my third time as a head coach, I'm kind of familiar with going up there and the routine you get into," Mullen said. "It is what it is with how the league schedule played out."
The Bulldogs found success there a year ago with a 28-16 victory. State threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns against the Wildcats and overcame three turnovers. They added 134 yards and two more scores on the ground.
"Last year they put nine guys standing on the line of scrimmage," Mullen said. "It don't matter if you're a good or bad rush defense, when you basically have two guys unblocked every play you're going to be a pretty good run defense. They gave us the pass game and we were able to throw on them and make plays in the air."
The Bulldogs alternated his quarterbacks in that 2011 contest switching between Chris Relf and Tyler Russell. Russell connected on 9-of-12 passing for 172 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.
