QB Boyle flips to UConn
UConn received some excellent news on Super Bowl Sunday. Quarterback Tim Boyle flipped to the Huskies from Boston College.
The Middletown (Conn.) Xavier quarterback said it wasn't an easy decision to back out of his pledge.
Boyle had been solidly committed to Boston College for most of the recruiting process. He was okay with the Eagles bringing another quarterback on in Mackay Lowrie. But when the Eagles added a third quarterback and told him candidly that they intended to switch to more of a spread, read-option offense, it caused him to look around.
"It was tough because I love BC and I do still have a tremendous amount of respect for them," Boyle said. "The coaching staff, the players, the community. But when it came down to the best decision for me, academically and in terms of football it was UConn.
"The offense at BC doesn't really fit my talents. Coach [Steve Addazio] told me to look around a little bit. UConn was an option and I spent a lot of time talking to the coaches. I took a couple of visits there and talked to my parents a lot today."
Boyle traveled to UConn on Sunday and told the coaches of his decision in person.
Prior to today his last trip to UConn was Wednesday.
"We just had a sit-down meeting and they showed me the ins and outs of the football program," he said.
Boyle is the No. 25 pro-style quarterback in the nation.
