AUBURN | Onterio McCalebb got defensive Tuesday.
"I can do anything I put my mind to. For me, it's all about heart," McCalebb said. "If you believe it, you can do it."
The senior tailback, who made waves with a 4.3 time in the Scouting Combine 40-yard dash, spent some time at Auburn's Pro Day on Tuesday as a defensive back. He said a few teams wanted to see how he looked while backpedaling and changing direction rapidly.
McCalebb remains hopeful that an NFL team is interested in him as a third-down back or slot receiver who can exploit advantageous match-ups on the perimeter. His best, unofficial 40 time Tuesday was a 4.28, which is fast even by NFL standards.
There are limiting factors. McCalebb actually lost weight after the Scouting Combine and tipped the scales at 169 on Tuesday. Also, by his own admission, his receiving skills are a work in progress.
He dropped a few passes during positional workouts Tuesday as a throng of scouts watched intently.
"My strength is running," McCalebb said. "My weakness is catching balls and blocking, but you can get better at everything you do."
