Artis-Payne breaks out
AUBURN | Kiehl Frazier floated a screen pass over the head of Cameron Artis-Payne, who used great body control and soft hands to bring in the pass on Saturday afternoon. Artis-Payne made one defender miss in the open field and turned up field for a 42-yard gain to gove the Orange team a 1st-and-Goal.
An A-Day star was born.
The junior-college transfer was the talk of Auburn's scrimmage, played in front of an A-Day record crowd of 83,401. The junior back led both the Orange and Blue teams in rushing, finishing with 18 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown.
"I just tried to come out and play hard," Artis-Payne said. "The offensive line opened up some holes, quarterbacks made some good throws and I was able to make some plays."
