John Tyler High School head coach Thomas Brooks shook hands with Ryan Mallett (6-foot-7, 235 pounds) before last fall's season opener and was certain Mallett was Texarkana Texas High School's starting right tackle. When THS coach Barry Norton introduced him instead as his starting quarterback, Brooks was overwhelmed.

Somehow, though, Tyler came out on top 20-16, but along the way Mallett, who officially committed to Michigan on Wednesday, gave an eye-opening performance.
