Lewis races to more offers
After running a hand-timed 4.31 in the 40-yard dash during a combine held at his school on Wednesday, several of the dozens of college coaches in attendance extended scholarship offers to Malachi Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound athlete from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, Calif.
"I ran a 4.31 at the Ventura County Combine," Lewis said. "There were 38 college coaches there and about 130 athletes. I was in track shape so I was able to run the 40 well."
Prior to the event, Lewis already held an impressive list of offers, but several other schools wanted to see him run before offering. He didn't disappoint.
"A lot of the scouts came to the school and told coach that they wanted to see me run before they offered," he said. "It felt good; everyone was waiting for me to receive more offers."
