What's going on with Gray?
The following is a quick recap of the happenings surrounding the recruitment of five-star cornerback Gary Gray and his recruitment, which now appears to be a two-team race between Notre Dame and South Carolina.
During the weekend Gray, from Columbia (S.C.) Richland Northeast High and a South Carolina commit, made an unofficial visit to Notre Dame. His mother and one of his assistant coaches made the trip from Columbia to South Bend, Ind. While they were on campus, the Fighting Irish and head coach Charlie Weis made an impact on Gray and his family.
During the trip home from South Bend, Gray re-opened his recruitment when his family released a statement. The following is that statement.
"A family decision has been made that Gary Gray is opening up his recruitment with South Carolina and Notre Dame. Due to the fact that his mother wasn't able to make the trip to Notre Dame the first time, Gary wasn't able to make an informed decision. All parties involved will be contacted this week. Gary needs time to discuss things with his mother. Please respect that Gary needs space. Thank you."
