QB's decision is a father's dream come true
Early in his football career, Tyrod Taylor's first coach was his father Rodney. Over the years the Rivals100 quarterback out of Hampton, Va. learned many of his skills from his father that helped him become a star quarterback. So it's no surprise that when Taylor announced his decision on Friday to attend Virginia Tech his father was struck with emotion.
"I can't put into words how proud I am of him tonight," he said. "He is a great kid that can take care of himself and has done everything his mother and I have asked of him. I think now he's finally home."
Taylor also a Hampton Crabber alum has been an influential coach to his son to develop him into the player he is today.
"I remember working with when he was young, passing the ball and he really took to it. I'd say I have probably been his hardest coach since he's been playing football," he said. "Over the years, he has worked so hard and never meant to be a five-star quarterback. He just went out and did well and everything has been a learning tool for him. He has learned so much over the years from Mike Smith, Ronald Curry and myself. I think all those things helped him develop."
