There is no doubt about the strength of the 2006 Baylor football team. It only takes a quick glance at the roster to figure out that the receivers have talent, they have experience, they have youth, and they have depth.
Top to bottom Baylor has one of the top receiving corps in the Big 12 and that is no exaggeration. Seniors Dominique Zeigler and Trent Shelton are four-year starters with NFL aspirations, David Gettis and Ernest Smith are two big, fast true freshmen, and Mikail Baker, Carl Sims, and Queito Teasley are sophomores that should not be overlooked. Throw in tight ends now known as Big Y/H-Receivers such as Terrance Parks, Jordan Adams, and Mike Miller and it's a group with size speed and flexibility.
Dominique Zeigler - #7 - 6-3, 180 - Sr.
Zeigler has been Baylor's big play threat since his sophomore year, and is Baylor's most feared and respected offensive weapon entering the season. He isn't the biggest or the fastest, but his routes, hands, and leaping ability make him a threat tough for any defense to handle.
He has led the Bears in receiving each of the last two seasons and looks to make it three in a row in 2006. He also hopes to re-write Baylor records for career receptions, touchdowns, and yardage. All three are each with in his range, and in Baylor's new spread attack he is a weapon that is sure to be used early and often.
Zeigler is listed a top the depth chart at Z-receiver and is an All-Big 12 and All-American Candidate.
Trent Shelton - #1 - 6-2, 207 - Sr.
Shelton does not get the headlines that Zeigler does, but he has been right up there with him in terms of production. He is not quite as flashy but he is fast and efficient.
He has caught at least one pass in 33 straight games and is set to surpass Reggie Newhouse's school record of 34 as well as continue one of the longest streaks in the nation.
He has been one of the Bears top three receivers each of the last two years and while there are more hands to keep happy do not look for Shawn Bell to turn away from a familiar target any time soon.
Shelton is expected to start at X-receiver for Baylor in 2006.
