Scarlet Knights ready to go
The Scarlet Knights may have been on-campus all summer, but Sunday's check-in at the Hale Center marked the official start of summer practice. One-by-one, they walked into the newly renovated lobby, checked in at the front desk, and then disappeared into the building.
Coaches, administrators, and media buzzed around, keeping track of who passed through the doors. It may have registered 90 degrees outside, but autumn at Rutgers Stadium was in the air.
Making their rounds to the reporters in the building were a host of Scarlet Knights, with quarterback Mike Teel getting plenty of attention. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound sophomore will take over for the graduated Ryan Hart, who leaves as the program's record holder in several statistical categories.
With a few starts under his belt, as well as an off-season spent preparing for the Fall, Teel is embracing his new role as a team leader.
"I think the guys have looked at me more as a leader this summer" said Teel. "I have been going out with the receivers for hours at night, just as an offense, working out and trying to step up and be a leader."
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is confident that his sophomore signal caller has what it takes.
