McKnight: ND's man on a mission
When Rhema McKnight went down with a knee injury in the first half of Notre Dame's 17-10 road victory over Michigan in the second game of the 2005 season, it shattered his dream of becoming Notre Dame's all-time leading receiver.
The dream is still alive in 2006.
Though catastrophic at the time, McKnight has put the pain and suffering behind him and is primed for a banner campaign. It also worked out well for his wide receiver running mates-Jeff Samardzija and Maurice Stovall. Samardzija caught 77 passes and scored 15 touchdowns en route to a consensus All-America campaign. Stovall latched on to 69 passes and scored 11 touchdowns, catching the eye of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who snagged him in the third round of the NFL draft.
McKnight, though set back by the injury that took longer to rehab than originally anticipated, is now in position to work in tandem with Samardzija and pursue those accolades once again.
