Injury list grows
For a while, it looked like the Cougs might be able to escape the earlier injury bug that bit so hard last season. Sad to say, the injury list has done nothing but grow and the results are cause for worry.
Broken bones seem to be epidemic. Arkelon Hall had been thought to have a high ankle sprain after Saturday's scrimmage, but now that turns out to be wishful thinking. Hall instead has a broken left fibula - an injury that will sideline him for the forseeable future.
Perhaps most concerning is that Matt Mullenix sustained a fractured bone in his right hand in Monday's practice. Mullenix is a returning starter and is expected to anchor the D-line opposite Mkristo Bruce.
With a broken hand, Mullenix is out for now, and could well miss the opener against Auburn and beyond. His status will be similar to that of slated starting right guard Andy Roof, down and out already with a broken thumb. Linemen can play with casts, but Mullenix would be limited in his ability to get off blocks and tackle.
