Expectation of Goodson
On Monday, Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione publicly made the announcement that answered one of the most frequently asked questions this summer. Will highly touted true freshman running back Mike Goodson[db] play in 2006?
"He's going to play," Franchione said after Monday's practice.
Of course, Franchione's announcement spawns a new question among the Aggie community. How much will Goodson play, and how much of an impact can he have as a true freshman?
That's a tough question to answer. First of all, A&M has two capable veteran running backs in senior speed back Courtney Lewis and sophomore Jorvorskie Lane. Second, the history of production for Aggie true freshman running backs has been a mixed bag of results.
Since 1991, the Aggies have had two freshman running backs that gained over 1000 yards in their college debut. The first was highly recruited Dallas Carter product Greg Hill burst onto the scene in 1991 with a 212-yard performance against LSU in route to a 1,216 yard season.
