Season Preview: Carpenter era begins
Just one week ago, Arizona State had what amounted to the best two-deep at quarterback of any school in the country, with a pair of players that were both among the top-20 at the position nationally according to various publications' position rankings.
After a fierce two-week battle in camp, coach Dirk Koetter decided the team would go with senior Sam Keller on Friday prior to its camp-ending scrimmage at Sun Devil Stadium, only to reverse course a day later when subsequent information became available to him.
Koetter said he made a mistake with his initial selection, and named sophomore Rudy Carpenter the starter, indicating that he believed Carpenter was the team's best option, all things considered.
