Tuberville returns as The Gambler
Auburn's Tommy Tuberville first earned the nickname 'Riverboat Gambler' during his four years as head coach at Ole Miss. With the Rebels often lacking the talent to compete with many of its SEC foes, Tuberville would open up the book on trick plays and fake kicks, whatever it took to give his team a chance to win.
Tuberville brought that same mentality when he first came to Auburn running a fake field goal for a touchdown against LSU in 1999, recovering an onside kick against Mississippi State in 2000 to help break a four-game losing streak to the Bulldogs and successfully going for it on 4th-and-1 from its own 13-yard line against Georgia in 2001.
