In Graham Harrell, Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach finally has a blue-chip signal caller at the helm of his high octane offense. It was widely expected entering this season that the sophomore quarterback would step in and perform at the same level as his four predecessors. That has not happened.

Through six games, the Red Raiders are averaging 31.67 points and over 436 yards of total offense per contest. They are 12th in the country in total offense, third in passing offense and 104th on the ground. While certainly respectable, these numbers are not what fans have come to expect out of Tech's offense.

This dip in production is largely due to a lack of consistency.

"As a team, we have some real good things going," explained Leach on Monday. "The thing we have been struggling with all year is inconsistency. We have been playing with nine [players] at times. As a group, we have to listen to each other better. We have to really focus on doing our job better.

"There are key situations where you have to rise and make something happen. We have sometimes, but not at other times. Certainly part of it is that we spend a certain amount of time digging holes for ourselves."
