He was perhaps Auburn's most ballyhooed signee from the 2006 class and thought to have as good a chance as any true freshman of playing this fall.

But wide receiver Tim Hawthorne will have to wait until next year to make his official debut at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

"Me and the coaches have made an agreement that it would be best for me to back off right now and see how everything unfolds," said Hawthorne. "I'm redshirting right now."
