Butch Davis revealed in his introductory press conference that he was going to try and lock up the top football prospects in the state of North Carolina, and he is already working on that mission, making a call to Ahoskie (N.C.) Hertford County defensive tackle Tydreke Powell Tuesday night.

"Yeah, I just got off the phone with Coach Davis" Powell said. "He sounded good on the phone. I've just got to get to know him, and see how it goes."

Davis, who met with some of the assistants on John Bunting's UNC staff Tuesday, mentioned to Powell how those coaches had many good things to say about him.

It was clear that Davis made a very good impression over the phone.
