Time for a new quarterback
Don't expect the next LSU quarterback to match the numbers put on the board by JaMarcus Russell.
In 13 games, Russell completed 68 percent of his pass attempts for more than 3,100 yards with 28 touchdowns. Such a season may have catapulted Russell to the No. 1 spot in the NFL draft.
After having Russell as the starting quarterback for the first two years of his tenure at LSU, coach Les Miles will have another person leading the offense.
Heading into spring practice, the winner of the quarterback derby has not been declared. Obviously, fifth-year senior Matt Flynn is ahead of third-year sophomore Ryan Perrilloux. But, Flynn has no claim on the job.
"We have two quarterbacks," Miles said. "We'll let the competition play out. Both matt and Ryan looked good at practice on the first day."
