UT football team gets back to work
Mack pleased with first day back
Texas head coach Mack Brown seemed to be a happy camper following his team's return to spring workouts on Sunday.
"The guys came back with a great attitude and we're excited about being back," Brown said. "They looked like they took care of business over spring break because they had a pick-up in their step. We've just got seven left, so we have a lot left to accomplish. We'll go back to work on Wednesday."
Brown mentioned that with such a limited amount of practices left, there are still some real issues that the coaching staff must settle before they head into the summer.
"We've got to separate our two quarterbacks behind Colt (McCoy) and try to get one of them in more of a position in a leadership role for that second-team spot when they get back," Brown said. "The second thing is tailback. We've got to find that second spot, the second guy. We've got to shore up the offensive line (and) continue to work on the running game. We've got some ideas that we need to look at and we're still trying to build on that. Defensively, more than anything else, we need to work on our depth and shore together our secondary. Obviously, with Larry Mac Duff coming in, (we'll need) to try and tie together our philosophy."
Back-up running back spot still up for grabs
In talking about the team's search for a primary back-up behind junior starter Jamaal Charles, Brown listed several names, but said that none have taken the bull by the horns - yet.
"Right now you have Chris Ogbonnaya, Vondrell McGee and James Henry," Brown said. "You have three guys that are all working (and) one will make a good play here or there, but right now no one has secured the spot."
