A&M opens spring drills
Spring drills got underway Tuesday for Texas A&M on the outdoor practice fields adjacent to Kyle Field on a very pleasant afternoon with temperatures in the low 80s. The team hit the field in shorts and helmets for its first action of the year.
The Aggies are starting later than ever before under coach Dennis Franchione, choosing to wait until after Spring Break instead of having a break in the middle of drills. To have the Maroon and White game during the annual Parent's Weekend, the Aggies are going to have to pack more practices in each week this season and will be going four times a week except for one week where there will be only three. The Maroon and White game will be April 15.

The receivers that seem most likely to fill the roles are junior Pierre Brown, junior Kerry Franks, junior Howard Morrow, sophomore E.J. Shankle and redshirt freshman Cody Beyer.
Of that group, Brown had the best day as he exhibited outstanding route running in one-on-one drills against junior cornerback Danny Gorrer. On one route he literally caused Gorrer's knees to buckle as he juked him out of his shoes and took off.
