Purdue's first football commitment for 2008 comes from familiar territory for the Boilermakers these days.

On Wednesday afternoon, Purdue hosted an unofficial visit from East Chicago Central defensive lineman Kawann Short, at which time it offered him a scholarship.

He quickly accepted, after conferring with his family, The Times of Northwest Indiana reported Friday.
