Nielsen ends prep career on a high note
After winning state titles in the 400-meter dash and 4x400 relay, Tyler Nielsen ended a very busy weekend with high school graduation on Sunday. Next up for the 6-foot-4, 215-pound linebacker is a move to Iowa City in two weeks to begin summer workouts with the Hawkeye football team. Nielsen talks about his upcoming freshman year at Iowa and much more.
Q: First, can you talk about your big weekend at state track a couple days ago?
NIELSEN: It was really exciting. We came down and had our best times of the year. We set personal records in almost every event down there, so it was really neat to run the best we could at the very end of the year.
Q: Obviously, you ended your high school career on a high note.
NIELSEN: Yeah, I think I went out well. It felt good just to compete and win a couple events at the state track meet.
Q: What's it like winning a state title with your brother on the 4x400 team?
NIELSEN: It was really neat to be able to run with him for my last event, especially for my dad because he's really a big track fan. I think it really meant a lot to him to see us win the 4x400.
