Tiger punters fight for a job
Last February, Missouri signed Jake Harry, a punter from Palomar Junior College. With scholarships at a premium, many outside the program viewed that as a direct challenge to senior incumbent Adam Crossett.
"Honestly, I'm a pretty self-motivated guy," Crossett said. "There's always going to be somebody. There's always gonna be somebody who is gonna be wanting your spot."
If anyone knows that lesson, it is Crossett. He has had to battle for the starting punting job each and every August. He has, at times, even lost the job, only to get it back. At placekicker, despite a go-ahead 53-yard field goal in the 2005 Independence Bowl, Crossett actually did lose his spot to Jeff Wolfert, at the time, an unknown former diver. So, yes, Crossett knows about players challenging his position.
Whether it is a result of the competition or not, the senior has started fall camp with a vengeance, consistently outdistancing Harry at each practice.
