Experience is key for Jones
Senior cornerback Andre Jones learned a lot in his first full season at Nebraska.
Jones signed with Nebraska in the class of 2006 out of Fresno (Calif.) City College. He finished the 2006 season with one interception and 52 solo tackles for the year. Now, with fall camp underway, the 6-foot, 190-pound cornerback is using what he's learned from the past season to make sure that the 2007 season is even better for the defense as a whole. He's also using lessons learned from last year to help the rest of the defense and the younger defensive backs on the roster.
"You know, I feel like, hey, I'm not a rookie anymore at this," Jones said. "I understand what's going on now, so now it's my turn to step up. As far as communicating, we're all on the same page. There is still a lot of improvement we have to do, but I'm glad I can say that now and not in the season."
Aside from Jones and the other defensive backs, he says that the linebackers are the group that really inspires the defensive unit.
