Camp over, time to play
Preseason practice is now over and the Syracuse Orange will look ahead to their showdown with the Washington Huskies. During fall camp the Orange had some good news and bad news over the past two weeks.
The worst news was that freshmen linebacker Jermaine Pierce had to hang up his cleats due to a serious blood clot issue. Pierce was the highest ranked member of the last Orange recruiting class. Tight end Tom Ferron also is gone after he decided he no longer wanted to play football. Ferron was the leading receiver for the Orange last season.
Other than Pierce having to leave the team, there were no other significant injuries during camp that will keep players from playing this season.
Going into this campaign the Orange had to decide who will be their newest cornerbacks after losing two starters from last season to graduation. After two weeks of practice, one of the choices looks to be getting clearer and that is former safety Dowayne Davis.
"Yes, right now, going into this game, I would like to put Dowayne at corner," Head Coach Greg Robinson said.
Robinson also feels that he will play an abundance of cornerbacks in the Washington game.
