White ready to assume starting role at tailback?
North Carolina freshman Johnny White made a case for earning the starting job at tailback for the Tar Heels this past weekend, taking more carries and running for more yards than any other UNC player at the position. White had nine attempts for 43 net yards against East Carolina, good for a 4.8 yards-per-carry average. He added four receptions for 58 yards coming out of the backfield, giving him 101 all-purpose yards for the game.
"I think that Johnny White, certainly we were impressed with how hard than he ran the other day," said UNC head coach Butch Davis. "He caught the ball well out of the backfield. He did a nice job on his protections. I think that he did some nice things. I think that Anthony Elzy did some nice things."
