Lorenzen still learning with Huskies
STORRS, Conn. - A quick glance at the stat sheet after the Huskies' win over Temple Saturday provides a few clues to the performance of quarterback Tyler Lorenzen.
The 6-foot-5, 226-pound quarterback completed 19-of-29 passes for 222 yards and, for the first time this season, did not throw an interception in the team's 22-17 victory.
Combine those numbers with a 298-yard, two-touchdown performance at Duke in the season opener and a 186-yard, two-touchdown showing against Maine and Lorenzen, a junior, has positioned himself just behind Louisville's Brian Brohm and Rutgers' Mike Teel for third place in total offense in the Big East.
But as a first-year starting quarterback, especially one who continues to pick up on the nuances of the UConn offense since transferring to the university in January, Lorenzen is bound to have his lumps, the first of which may have occurred for the first time Saturday.
"Did he perform as well as what he thought he should, or I thought he should? No," said head coach Randy Edsall during Tuesday's press conference.
