Mountaineers Try to Break Curse of Pirate Rush D
MORGANTOWN-280. That's how many total rushing yards the West Virginia Mountaineers have managed in their last two match-ups with the East Carolina Pirates, a very low number for what has been one of the nation's premier rushing attacks.
The trend of unstoppable force versus immovable object continues this year; WVU is ranked second in the country in rushing (343.7 yards per game), while ECU has allowed just 86 yards per game on the ground to the likes of Virginia Tech and North Carolina, the best among Conference USA schools and 25th in the nation.
"They play physical, which is probably the greatest thing you can have as a team," said WVU senior fullback Owen Schmitt. "They've shut us down the last few years."
