Notebook: Shakeup at linebacker position
Eric Brock has played in 39 games at safety.
But Saturday against New Mexico State, the Auburn senior found himself lined up at Sam (strongside) linebacker.
Brock was there out of necessity.
Injuries and attrition have decimated Auburn's linebacker corps this year. It started in the summer when projected Sam starter Patrick Trahan left school after becoming academically ineligible. Junior Steve Gandy had to give up his football career after suffering another concussion in preseason practice.
Starters Tray Blackmon and Merrill Johnson have missed most of the last three games due to injuries.
"We needed somebody to fill the void a little bit and help out. I'm pretty much everywhere," said Brock.
"As a safety you play down there half the game anyway. It's coming along. It was a little awkward at first, but, day by day, hopefully I can get better at it."
