Midseason report on football
Nine years of mismanagement, poor choices of coaches, assistants and weak recruiting cannot be undone overnight, although Butch Davis and his staff are doing a heck of a job in moving Carolina in that direction.
One of the chief complaints about the team the last couple of years was that it would quit under severe adversity. The Tar Heels certainly melted during a 52-7 loss at Clemson. There were similar performances at Virginia and at Utah in previous seasons.
What is humorous this season is to hear a few perennial complainers and negative thinkers gripe and moan because their fellow fans choose to see the positive side of what is happening with this football program. The complaints are really rather absurd when one considers this staff is in its first year and is working with a team that lacks in overall speed, depth and experience. The quarterback is a freshman. The running backs are freshmen. There are freshmen linebackers, defensive linemen and defensive backs.
