Beginning the bye week
Your team just won a gigantic conference game at home, so what are you gonna do next?
"I'm taking the week off!"
Well, not really. The above quote was meant to parody the DisneyWorld Super Bowl ads more than anything. For Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State, the week will be different. Obviously, there's no game this upcoming Saturday, which will allow players a weekend to hang out and watch the other games out there. For coaches, it'll mean being able to hit the recruiting trail after practices conclude for the week. In his Sunday teleconference, Gundy said that the team will practice on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday before letting the team enjoy the weekend. And then, as mentioned before, coaches will hit the road to talk to targeted recruits.
And they'll have a big win to include in their pitches, after the Cowboys' huge 41-39 win over Kansas State on Saturday night. The win was an exclamation point to just how much the Pokes have turned their season around since the loss at Troy on Sept. 14.
"They've come a long ways," Gundy said. "They're a close group and have good senior leadership. I thought they did some really good things, especially on defense with these guys being out and having to play down the line guys that don't get many reps to rally and find a way to create some turnovers and get the ball back to the offense. So they're growing up and learning to play together as a team."
