Little should provide a lot
Durham's Greg Little is earning more playing time and showing his diverse skills the deeper into the season North Carolina gets.
Rated as one of the top five football players in North Carolina a year ago, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound Little came within hours of wearing a Notre Dame uniform instead of Carolina blue.
But Marvin Austin and Mike Paulus's late phone calls helped to persuade Little to change his mind and stay home and play for the Tar Heels. It is a move the Carolina coaching staff is thrilled Little made.
"Greg Little could probably start at five different positions on this football team," Coach Butch Davis said.
Little is content to get as much time as possible catching and running with the ball as a Tar Heel wide receiver. At times, offensive coordinator John Shoop lines Little up at quarterback and lets him take the snap and run. On a play against Wake Forest, Little handed the ball off in an effort to fool the defense.
Getting to this point was not easy.
