Clark kicks it with the skilled guys
Clarkston, Ga. - At the NIKE Combine, the skill players are put in a position to shine. The forty yard dash, shuttle drill, and vertical leap test are all designed to reward speed and athletic ability. Kickers, however, are not the first that come to mind when talking athleticism. David Clark did not let presumptions get in the way of his competitive nature Saturday when he jumped right in and competed like everyone else.
"I think I did pretty good, but I should have done better," said Clark. "I need to work harder."
One might expect a kicker to get some jokes thrown his way by the other players, but not Clark.
"They don't know I'm a kicker and I like it that way. I want to be just as athletic as everyone else. I don't think anyone noticed today."
The position is usually not a highly touted one, and some schools actually use only walk-ons. But the kicker from Warner Robins looks to be one of the best in the nation next year.
"I have no offers right now, but I do get letters from a lot of schools," he said. "Hopefully offers will come next year."
As the main kicker for the Demons last year, he excelled on the field.
