Second scrum features big plays
BOUDLER, Colo. - Much has changed in the three years since Dan Hawkins arrived in Boulder. During the Buffaloes' first preseason camp under his watch, the offense struggled to gain first downs, much less score touchdowns.
Marked improvements were made with the Buffs' offense from year one to year two. And strides have been made on that side of the ball again this off-season, as Colorado prepares for the 2008 season.
During the Buffaloes' first preseason scrimmage, last Monday, the offense scored touchdowns on seven of 23 series. And on Sunday afternoon, during their second scrum of camp, the offense found the end zone on nine of 18 series.
"I know I speak for myself and for everyone [on offense], we all feel really comfortable, especially that first unit," said sophomore wide receiver Scotty McKnight, who led the way with five receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. "We're going to go out there and we're going to make big plays. We have playmakers on that side of the ball."
