Special teams collapse against LSU
There wasn't anything special about Auburn's special teams Saturday night against LSU. In a series normally decided by the units of each team, Auburn's faltered time and time again in the 26-21 loss.
There was the muffed punt by LSU's Trindon Holliday in the first quarter. The one Auburn defenders were around but failed to recover. There was the other muffed punt by Holliday three minutes later. Again, Auburn wasn't in position to recover it. Both punts landed inside the LSU 30-yard line.
The punt team's problems only began with the missed opportunities in the first quarter. Starting punter Clinton Durst did not play because of the flu, according to Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville.
