OL Bunche postpones trip
Newark, Delaware offensive tackle Malcolm Bunche was scheduled to take an official visit to Maryland over the weekend but an injury prevented him from making the trip.
The 6-foot-6, 315-pound lineman knows his future is on the gridiron, but like many other prospects, he enjoys basketball as a second sport. Unfortunately for Bunche, his work on the hardwood is causing him to change his plans.
"No, I didn't go (to Maryland)," Bunche said on Sunday afternoon. "I had an ankle injury from basketball.
"I went up to block a shot and landed on somebody's foot. It's a third degree sprain and it's going to be fully healed in about four weeks. I've rescheduled (the trip) for January but I'm not sure of the day yet."
Bunche plans on taking official visits to UConn (January 16) and Miami (January 23) next month as well. As he said recently, he has narrowed his focus to Rutgers, Maryland, UConn and Miami.
"Rutgers and Miami have been here for (in-home) visits. The other two haven't talked about coming by yet. I'm still just looking at those four and I'm wide open between them."
Not long after committing to Rutgers in August the Miami coaching staff made it clear they would not be letting up. The Scarlet Knights are still in serious contention despite the fact that Bunch considers himself open, and the Rutgers coaches handled it well.
"They were okay with it," he said. "They're fine with things. Young men seem to change their minds about this stuff, you know? It happens. They were alright with it."
Bunche is rated the No. 38 offensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com.
