Canty discusses Shrine Bowl experience
Duke commit and former Dorman High standout Walt Canty left Saturday's Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas with a victory, the South Carolina defensive MVP trophy and the knowledge that he perhaps outplayed everyone on the field. Those three things put a big smile on the faces of the Duke coaching staff.
When David Cutcliffe and his staff offered the three-star prospect, they were the first and to this point the only school to have recognized his outstanding abilities on not only the football field, but in the classroom as well. In fact, many are labeling Duke's ability to pull Canty in last month as one of the steals of the class. While Duke knew all along they were getting one of the top players in South Carolina, programs around the region are just now finding out that Canty's high school coach wasn't blowing smoke when he told them the senior was a player they would want in their uniforms.
