Georgia speedster gets first offer
Jonathan Krause had just left John Small's office when the South Gwinett High School head coach called him on his cell phone and told him to make a hasty return.
Once he got there, the Snellville, Ga., wide receiver got the news he had been waiting on -- his first scholarship offer.
"I'm happy," Krause said Friday evening, hours after receiving a scholarship offer from Ole Miss. "I was surprised. Coach Small had told me yesterday that Ole Miss had called and was very interested and that Coach Markuson was going to talk to the head coach (Houston Nutt) about some things. He told me I might get my first offer today."
Markuson called Small to extend the scholarship offer, and Small put Krause on the phone with the Rebels' offensive line coach.
"He told me that they're trying to get me up there to see the campus and everything," Krause said. "He said I'm a good student and a good athlete. We talked about me taking an official visit there."
Krause admitted that he doesn't know much about Ole Miss, but the 5-foot-11, 154-pound speedster said the Rebels caught his eye a couple of times in 2008.
"I know they beat Texas Tech and they beat Florida," Krause said. "They have a nice little offense, too."
Krause, who caught 62 passes for more than 600 yards and four touchdowns last season, described himself as "a speedy wide receiver. I run good routes. I catch the ball well. I still have to work on that a little bit, but I have to get bigger in the weight room."
Krause said he's also interested in Florida, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Central Florida, Florida State. He has attended junior days at Georgia Tech, Alabama and Central Florida.
"Number one, I want academics," said Krause, who claims a 4.41-second 40-yard dash. "I want a good atmosphere to play in and I want to like the campus."
