First-team defense gets job done
Auburn's offense drew most of the headlines during its 57-31 win at A-Day on Saturday.
The first-team defense certainly did its part, though.
Facing the second-team offense, the Tigers' top defense allowed just one first down on three drives before sitting out most of the second half.
Most importantly, the first-team defense found ways to get to the quarterback.
Michael Goggans had a sack and another play where he got to the quarterback and was credited with a tackle for loss. Mike Blanc also had a sack.
Goggans credited defensive line coach Tracy Rocker for the defensive line's progress.
"I think overall the defensive line's been doing really well this fall," Goggans said. "We've been getting to the quarterback. Coach Rock's been teaching us a lot of new moves and techniques and overall I think our defensive line has held up pretty well this spring."
The line played well despite Antonio Coleman taking on a limited role during the scrimmage.
