Thomas looking for a position
Kelly Quinlan
JacketsOnline.com The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have many explosive athletes in the 2009 signing classes and freshman Jemea Thomas is one of the players waiting to find out what role he will play in college. Thomas was an outstanding running back and safety at Fitzgerald High School and the five-foot-nine 185-pound athlete is anxious to see where he ends up.
"The coaches signed me as an athlete, so I am not sure where I am going to end up," Thomas said. "I would rather play safety."
Currently Thomas is listed as an A-back on the Georgia Tech official roster, but his position could change when fall camp starts in August.
To get ready for the grind of ACC football, Thomas carefully followed the instruction manual given to him by the coaching staff following signing day.
"I went by the book and did everything in the book to get ready," Thomas said. "I just went through everything and experienced the workout."
Given the uncertainty of what position he will end up at, Thomas is open to redshirting or doing anything, he can to help the team this season.
"I have not heard anything from the coaches about playing or redshirting, either way it is cool with me," he said. "I would rather play though."
Unlike a lot of true freshman, Thomas has set a simple goal for his first season as a Yellow Jacket.
"My goal is to get through my freshman season, that is it," he said.
